Job Summary
DiGiCo mixing consoles can process and mix hundreds of simultaneous audio channels with low latency for the world’s top music performers. As a member of the team, you will design and implement high-speed audio engine firmware working at the forefront of this exciting industry. We are looking for an FPGA & DSP Engineer to strengthen our team in Chessington and expand the capabilities of our key products.
Main activities & responsibilities
You will be responsible for the design and development of complex audio engine designs and bespoke algorithms for high-end audio mixing desks.
The role will cover from specification through to hardware testing, with a focus on high quality, reusable coding, as well as effective verification, of various audio interfaces and custom DSP designs.
This will include:
- Develop and maintain new audio processing features on consoles and racks
- Implement communication protocols between products or internal components
- Write code with a view to re-usability, readability, and efficient resource utilisation
- Simulate and Verify designs with modern techniques to create comprehensive tests
- Test internal hardware/software to ensure the quality of the products
- Document designs and interfaces

Education, qualifications | o Degree in Electronics/Software Engineering or related subject | • MSc/PhD in Electronics/Software Engineering or related subject • Degree in Music Technology |
Experience | o 3 Years of Firmware development with a low level of programming (FPGA/ASIC, DSP, or C for low-latency systems)
o Strong knowledge and understanding of practical digital signal processing o Implementing new designs, using a mixture of existing IP and newly created code, using VHDL primarily for Xilinx devices o The job will require a good knowledge, understanding, and experience of most of the following: – High-speed digital design – Logic, Timing, Signal Integrity, Computer Architecture |
Knowledge and experience of one of the following will be considered an advantage: o VHDL o Assembler for SHARC DSP (CrossCore or VisualDSP++) o Xilinx Tools (Vivado, ISE, Vitis, SDK) o Experience in FPGA simulation/verification using OSVVM o C/C++ o U-boot/Linux/Yocto experience o Experience in using audio mixing systems o Knowledge of digital audio |
Practical & intellectual skills (inc. special knowledge) | o Electronic hardware design and bring-up o Understanding of electronic circuits, schematics, FPGA design, and verification o Familiar with audio interfaces, and serial communication protocols (I2C, SPI, UART). o Able to work well and effectively with remote teams as well as individually o Good problem-solving skills o Good time management o Balanced view of perfection vs. speed o PC skills – Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint o Excellent written and verbal communication |
