Job Vacancy: R&D Software Development Manager

Contract Type: Permanent/Full Time


Based in Chessington, we are looking for a Software Development Manager to work in our Research & Development team reporting to the Head of Product Software


Our mixing consoles perform complex audio processing and mixing on hundreds of simultaneous audio channels with very low latency. To do this they have very high speed audio engines implemented in hardware and firmware. There is a sophisticated user interface implemented using graphics, touch and a range of electromechanical controls; and in between the user interface and the audio engine is a complex application which drives the console.


• Architecting systems with a view to re-use, modularisation and hardware and software efficiency
• Leading the development of new console software designs, using modern software development tools and techniques
• Leading and managing the software development teams both locally and remotely including recruitment, team development and performance management
• Creating and driving software development plans, software roadmaps, resource management, source code management, issue management and build management
• Ensuring the production of suitable specification, design and interface documentation
• Leading and managing debug and error activities to drive software maturity to release standard as quickly as possible
• Where appropriate, hands-on development of software


• 5 years+ experience in complex real time software systems development
• Strong technical people management skills
• Experience architecting, specifying, designing and programming complex software systems
• Successfully delivered systems to market in a lead/management role
• Strong understanding of software engineering theory and principles
• Familiarity with tools for source control and issue management such as GitHub and JIRA
• A good degree (2.1 or 1st) and possibly post-graduate qualifications in Computer Science, Engineering or another subject with a high software and mathematical component

Experience of the following would be an advantage:

• C/C++, Qt/QML, Delphi
• Networking and communications protocols including TCP/IP, USB, Serial
• Developing GUI’s for professional applications
